busking, jinxed

Curses!

It often seems that when I book our daughter in to childcare to go busking I am jinxed. It rains or there’s deafening building works all around but today takes the biscuit.

On the way into town a branch fell and hit my windscreen, damaging the bodywork making a straight forward replacement impossible. I was so relieved that the little one wasn’t in the van at the time (glass all over the passenger seat) – it could have been so much worse. However now instead of busking I’m sorting out a replacement vehicle so it can be repaired and so we can go camping ….

I’m a bit p***ed off. Still at least it’s stopped raining ….

Love

Yesterday I played in Truro. I had been out on a night out at Bone China the night before, gotten drunk on a single cocktail and eaten some wonderful food. As always though I woke early.

My husband had got the low down on busking in Truro from our good friend Andy Marshall. I got the bus into town early and there he was at Highcross. Very kindly he suggested we share the pitch, which we did.

I had a ball! It was a wonderful warm day and family and friends came out to see me. While I was playing a lovely little girl a bit younger than my own, was watching me with her nana. For what I could tell she kept making her nana come back. After 3 or 4 tines I beckoned the little girl over and gave her a CD. She looked delighted.

After I had finished playing, I went for coffee with my family and friends. Just as I sat down I noticed the same little girl coming over. She had drawn this picture. My heart melted. She gave me the biggest hug, and later came over with the CD. I signed it and she gave me another hug; what a wonderful moment.

Waiting to play #2

The transformation of Newton Abbot is in full swing. It could be a noisy one today – I’m waiting to see. Not that there’s a thing I can do about it. I’m here and unless they are literally demolishing stuff today I’ll see how it goes.

It was a struggle to get here today, mind you, early starts on Tuesdays always are; I work late teaching on a Monday and I’m rarely asleep before midnight. So anyway, while I wait and see, I’ve managed to get the costume items for the little ones school play (hurrah!) and some more hair grips. Seriously, that’s the business to be in, I must get through hundreds every year-where do they go!?

Town in filing up with people, men talking about football…. was there a game last night? 😂😂

Waiting to play #1

I’m in Totnes today, I’ve had possibly the best decaf flat white from Seeds 2. I’ve gone off buying coffee out as often they’re a bit disappointing; I make a flask usually but didn’t today.

Anyway, following a rather lovely weekend surfing with my daughter and my pals I’ve been watching surfing videos YouTube. Now I know what I’ve been doing wrong!

It’s still early and it’s looking to be another glorious day. People are gradually making their way into town and gentle hubbub is growing. I don’t come here very often. I have fond memories of my time at Dartington, although I imagine it’s very different now that the college has moved.

Anyway I’d better get some sunscreen as I can’t find mine….

Soooo childish!!!

So the council installed a bike rack a while ago right on a busking pitch. Now call me paranoid but I think maybe it was in a bid to stop bands busking since there’s a perfectly good bike rack 5 feet away… Luckily for me I take up very little space.

So anyway, today I cane over all childish.,, check out my bike lock!!! 😂😂😂😂. Oh it’s the small things that make me laugh!

Anyway, I really enjoyed busking today. I learned that despite it being really windy, SSE winds are ok. Everyone was really lovely…no nasty ole trolls climbing out from under their bridges today… Yey!
